The Mary Winspear Centre is gearing up to host a night of laughter and satire as it presents This is That Live at the Charlie White Theatre on Thursday, February 22.

This comedy features the dynamic duo of Pat Kelly and Peter Oldring, renowned hosts of the popular CBC podcast This is That.

For those unfamiliar with the podcast, This is That takes a unique approach to comedy, utilizing the same serious audio techniques typically associated with journalism. The show incorporates phone interviews, narrative documentaries, archival news clips, witnesses on location, and found footage to create a realistic facade. However, there’s a catch – everything presented on the podcast is entirely fabricated.

The live show, This is That Live, promises an evening of entertainment divided into two acts. The first half will showcase the duo performing classic material from their award-winning radio show. Audiences can expect to relive some of their favourite fake news stories.

The second half of the show takes an exciting turn as Kelly and Oldring relinquish their writing responsibilities to the audience. The comedians will improvise brand-new stories on the spot, showcasing their quick wit and sharp comedic instincts in a testament to their skill.

Fans of the podcast can look forward to an immersive experience where they can witness the creative process in action, as the comedians blend humour and improvisation.

Whether you’re a devoted fan of This is That or a newcomer to the world of fabricated news, This is That Live promises a night of laughter and entertainment that will leave you questioning what is real and what is just hilariously, brilliantly fake.
