Your column pissed me off
Re: Caveman era needs to end, Jan. 26-Feb.1
Sometimes after reading your column, I think it would be more appropriate to place it in the 'You Pissed Me Off' section rather than under 'Editor's Note.' I find it more of an editor's rant than an opinion.
However, your article on 'Caveman era needs to end' caught my eye, so I began to read on. I started to warm up to your column as you described the stories of intimidation of women in Victoria by young male thugs. Your comparison of this behaviour to that of Neanderthals, and that these young men think women are their 'playthings' was stinging but accurate.
So, you were winning me over, until I read the last paragraph. I was stunned when you suggested that 'maybe our laws should change so that women are given the right to carry defensive weapons such as stun guns and rocket launchers.' You stated that your choice for your daughter would be the Winchester SXP Defender pump-action shotgun. What?? Any constructive points that you made in this article negated itself in your last paragraph. Is the suggestion that giving your daughter a Winchester really a part of the solution? And what kind of message does that send to other young women? Is that not Neanderthal thinking?
As a representative of the media, your journalism could convey the message that violence is unacceptable, regardless of gender.
