Roundabout needs rules
I’m writing to express my growing concern regarding the functioning of the new roundabouts at Pat Bay and McTavish. Regardless of your take on it, as a resident of the area who uses it multiple times per day, I need to point out a gaping hole of a safety concern: I would wager that 1 out of 3 drivers have no idea what the laws are regarding roundabouts. I have nearly been hit a few times this week by uninformed drivers entering without yielding, and have stopped suddenly behind drivers who think they need to yield to a vehicle entering the roundabout. I implore the government of North Saanich, the Province of B.C., and even ICBC to do the absolute minimum in terms of driver education on this matter: post signs approaching the intersection advising motorists to ”yield to vehicles already in roundabout,” or “vehicles in roundabout have the right-of-way.” An ounce of prevention…
