Letter: Canada's nuclear solutions

I see Harper’s Minister for Sports, Gary Lunn, is concerned about injuries among hockey players, and is devoting $5-million of our money to help them. It would have been nice if he had shown the same concern for his constituents when, as Minister of Energy, he fired the safety commissioner when she refused to allow the reopening of the Chalk River nuclear power plant.

Prime Minister Harper has assured us there is no danger of the radiation from Japan affecting Canada. Considering last week’s earthquake in Quebec, about midway between the nuclear plants at Chalk River and Pickering, I’d feel more comfortable hearing what this government intends here. Evacuation of several million Canadians and deploying our few nuclear engineers come to mind as possibilities.

Is there a plan, beyond firing the people who might offer a solution?
