Here at Monday headquarters, hidden deep in the bowels of our secret marketing lab, our psychically-connected unichaun (part unicorn, part leprechaun) twins began speaking in rhyming couplets.
Turns out they had convinced the janitor to sneak in a box of Fruit Loops and had gone astral projecting on a sugar high, but it gave us an idea for a contest anyway.
To celebrate the snake-killing charms of St. Patrick, who would be the first to tell you to never trust a green pint, we’re after your best, and cleverest, limericks. And I know what you’re thinking, but we’re looking for imagination and wit rather than dirty words. With five lines (following the rhyming scheme of the example above) at your disposal, you can choose any topic that relates to life, politics, people, etc. of Victoria. Most of all, have fun.
There is no entry fee, so we’re limiting it to one entry per person. There will be prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, as selected by our celebrity judges, and the winners will also be published in our March 15 issue. Email your poem to entry@mondaymag.com. More info can be found in the ad on page 21.
Quirky Critters
For those who are more visually inclined, we’re also launching a fun contest for all you pet lovers. Quirky Critters will launch in next week’s edition (keep an eye out for the ad), but here’s the advance scoop. Living in James Bay, I love to walk along the water and see all the dogs frolicking in the park. And, as I’m sure you know, dog lovers are a special breed. They love to spoil their furry canine children by dressing them up in every manner of cute and quirky outfits.
Friends of mine own a pair of pugs that have outfits and hats for every special occasion. Needless to say, they are never short of great photos for their annual Christmas cards, birthday invitations, Burns Night, Halloween party, etc.
We wanted to bring some of that fun and frivolity to Monday with a special contest that, along with some great prizes, will publish select photos of the judges’ favourites in a special section within our April 5 edition.
All the details will be in next week’s ad, but the entry fee will be $5 and I’ll be accepting your best photos on standard 5x7-inch photographic paper or submitted electronically as 1MB jpeg. This contest is open to pet owners of every stripe and scale, not just dog lovers. So if you have a favourite pet photo that always makes you smile, that’s the one we want. M
