It is with deep sorrow that we mourn the passing of Myrna Claudette Holden who died peacefully surrounded by her son and daughter at Saanich Peninsula Hospital, Saanich, B.C., Canada, on July 20, 2023. Myrna suffered from a sudden stroke.
Myrna was born in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to Edith M. and Claude Hunter. She grew up in Esquimalt as part of a family with two sisters - Carrol (predeceased) and Judy. She attended both UVIC and UBC where she obtained a degree in Honours Mathematics. She then landed a job with the Ministry of Defense in Ottawa where she met her husband H. Michael Holden (predeceased). She was the much-beloved mother of Susie Holden (Alan Evans) and Michael Holden (Liz Chase), and grandmother to Brendan, Leah, Christopher, and Ryan. Family was very important to her.
Myrna and her husband Mike shared a passion for travelling and gourmet food and enjoyed many adventures overseas together. She continued to travel without him in her later years. She lived in many different places in her life (Victoria, Vancouver, Ottawa, Burlington, Tehran, Toronto, Montreal, West Vancouver) but Sidney is where she lived happily for the last 30 years. She built a community of close friends over those years, and she loved her place on the water in Sidney. She was an active member of the CFUW and Probus clubs in Sidney and enjoyed walking with friends and participating in Pilates classes.
