December 17, 1934 - May 10, 2021
Mary Aleda Cassell, 86, of Victoria, British Columbia (BC), Canada, passed away on Monday, May 10th, 2021, at her residence at the Heights at Mt. View in Victoria, BC. She was born to Preston Irwin Timmins and Helen Coverdale Timmins (née Gardiner) on December 17, 1934, in Kingston, Ontario, Canada.
Mary grew up attending Rideau and Victoria Public Schools, and Kingston Collegiate and Vocational Institute (KCVI). She graduated from Queen's University with a Bachelor's degree.
In her youth, she was a Brownie, and then a Girl Guide (Girl Scouts in the US). She also became a part of the group of historical re-enactors at Old Fort Henry, a National Historic Site in Kingston.
She loved to travel, was a business owner, and was a long-standing member of Soroptimist International, traveling with her husband both nationally and internationally to many places afar.
She loved animals, doing crafts, pretty flowers, touring gardens and places of interest, and especially loved taking photographs of things she enjoyed and admired.
She suffered a debilitating stroke in 2000 while traveling in India but, even confined to a wheelchair, she continued to travel with her husband for many years after. She enjoyed her life to its fullest! Nothing slowed her down.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Dr. Wilfred Alwyn Cassell, their sons Dr. Robert (Cynthia), David (Dena), and Steven (Cheryl) and daughter Sharon (Eric) Johnson, her brother Donald (Jo-Anne) Timmins, and three grandchildren, Steven, Liam, and Katie.
Mary's remains have been cremated, and there will be no Memorial service due to the COVID pandemic. Burial will be at a later date and location yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to KCTS9.org, a public broadcasting television station that she so enjoyed watching.
