November 12, 1924 - September 2, 2019
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Kamellah Syne. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at age 94 in Sidney, BC.
Born in Siparia, Trinidad & Tobago, to HB & Sakeenah Syne, Kamellah was the youngest of seven children. Her parents sent her to New York to study cosmetology and hair dressing, and she developed a passion for skin care. In 1963, she immigrated to Calgary with her husband and five young children.
Kamellah (affectionately known as Auntie Kams, Kamay, or Grandma Kam) was a loving, and devoted mother, aunt and friend. She was a kind and gentle soul, and embodied elegance, grace and class. She touched the lives of many and left an indelible mark on everyone's heart. She was known for her warm, welcoming nature, love of dancing, and delicious cooking!
Kamellah was blessed to have many guardian-angel homecare workers, particularly Liezel and Irene, support her over the years. Her family is forever grateful to Beacon Community Services and the Vancouver Island Health Authority for the incredible care they provided.
Kamellah was preceded in death by her son, Ashmead, and will forever be cherished by her surviving daughters, Razia, Lela, and Kareema; son, Kyam; son-in-law; Jim, granddaughter, Krystil; grandson-in-law, Kevin, and great granddaughters, Kelina and Kalaya.
A memorial service and reception will be held at 11am on Friday, September 20, 2019 at Deer Park United Church (77 Deerpoint Rd S.E.) in Calgary, AB. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Mount Newton Centre Society in Kamellah's memory.
