Passed away suddenly at the age of 93 in Victoria, BC. Born and raised in Tadworth, England she became a war bride on April 1, 1944.
She married John Wendeline Koenig and returned to Canada after the war. She worked at the City of North Battleford until her move to Victoria in the mid-70s. She worked at BC Medical (now MSP) in Victoria until her retirement July 31, 1986. Ever active, after retirement she volunteered at the Sandringham Nursing Home in Victoria and assisted teaching Tai-Chi & with outings for the residents. She also taught Tai-Chi at the Silver Threads and at Club until 2001.
After developing macular degeneration and dealing with her loss of eyesight she volunteered at the CNIB assisting the nurses with other patients. She loved her daily afternoon walk for her coffee break at the cafe at the museum, where she met new friends, especially the owners and staff who treated her so kindly.
Doris is survived by her daughter Diane Wallace, daughter Jennifer (Albert) Emel, Deborah Parro, Trevor (Caroline) Koenig, sister Jean Smith (England) and Douglas (Pamela) Ayling (England), sixteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and one great-great grand-daughter, numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, a sister, two sons (Roy & Michael) and daughter (Susan). A Celebration of Life was held by The Glenshiel on Thursday, August 6, 2015, where she lived for the last 8 years.
