December 20, 1942 - July 11, 2023
Alexander Peter Marjanovich, born December 20, 1942, died peacefully at Saanich Peninsula Hospital on July 11, 2023, after a long illness. Alex was born on Tumbo Island to parents, Michael and Thereza Marjanovich née Segalerba. Alex lived most of his life in Sidney. He started working on commercial fishing boats as a teenager to help support his family and later worked at the dockyard at Esquimalt as the captain of the CFAV Lawrenceville. He is predeceased by his parents and sisters, Gerty LeBrun and Theresa Marjanovich, and is survived by his wife of 48 years, Dorothy, stepdaughters Karen Cutler (Mike), Lisa Hume and Shawna Lutch (Dave), grandchildren Tamara Dean (Greg), Trevor Cutler (Kay Kay) and Hannah Greenlee, great-grandchildren Logan, Jaxon, Lily and Miles, sister Helen Little, nieces Judy Campbell (Tim) and Barbara Scott (Ray), as well as many other extended family members and life long friends. Alex loved being on the water and enjoyed many happy years on his boats, including the Kalisha, fishing in the Saanich Inlet and by Sidney Spit. His homemade fish and chips were a family favourite. He loved tinkering in his yard and basement workshop. He travelled in Canada and the USA, but he was happiest in Sidney and getting the latest news from his friends at the Army and Navy and Boondocks. A celebration of life is planned for a later date still to be determined. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his name to the Canadian Cancer Society.
