The Gallery by Sooke Arts Council has passed its first anniversary and continues to evolve.

Opening a community gallery during a pandemic proved to be a challenge to the board and volunteers of Sooke Arts Council, but they persevered! The Gallery has been host to several shows and events, including a plein air painting event and auction—a fundraising collaboration with the Sooke Fine Arts Society that was highly successful and is in development again for next year. The Gallery also has an eclectic gift shop, which will be featured November 24 to December 24 when it takes over the whole gallery.

Upcoming shows include:

• October 6 to 17: Ritual For Remembering with dl clay and Tatjana Darling.

In Ritual For Remembering, artist-writers Deb Clay and Tatjana Darling explore memory and the things we do/enact/create to evoke memories through art and writing.

• October 20 to November 21: Time to Reflect—SAC Members’ Show asks artists to respond to the concept of reflection in whatever medium they work.

The Gallery is open Wednesday to Sunday, 11 am to 4 pm and is located in Sooke at 6596 Sooke Road, unit 6, at the corner of Sooke and Church roads. More information at: sookearts.com
