A satirical play set in a familiar magical wizarding world is set to begin production at Vancouver Island University.

From March 7-16, the VIU theatre department will perform Puffs, or Seven Increasingly Eventful Years at a Certain School of Magic and Magic. The parody of the best-selling Harry Potter book series centres around three young students trying to make it through their “dangerous magic school” and avoid attacks from evil wizards. The story follows Wayne Hopkins and his two best friends, and tells the story of the seven-book series from the perspective of the Puffs, who are inspired by the book series’ Hufflepuff dormitory.

“This is a hysterical satire of a beautiful magical world that is close to all our hearts. A school of magic and magic through seven eventful years as seen in the eyes of a group of students who were not saving the world or vanquishing evil,” said Leon Potter, director and a VIU theatre department professor, in a news release. “This is a story for all of us who might see the grass as greener everywhere else, but with a bit of perspective, might realize that we all have a little special something inside of each and every one of us.”

Performances start at 7:30 p.m. at VIU’s Malaspina Theatre building. Tickets are $11.30 at http://www.showpass.com.
