Saanich artist Noah Layne is throwing open the doors to his art school, Noah Layne Academy of Realist Art, with an open house Saturday from 2 to 5 p.m.  The academy, located at 202-1595 McKenzie Ave., offers ongoing weekly classes in traditional drawing and painting for adults and youth.

Layne started teaching realist drawing classes in Victoria in 2008 and opened his academy in 2014. Layne’s students come from all sorts of  artistic backgrounds and abilities; some are new to drawing and others are showing their work in galleries. His goal in teaching is to meet his students where they are and teach them hands-on skills that will help them improve and develop their abilities in a supportive environment.

Layne has shown his work locally as well as internationally. Recently he was one of only two Canadian artists represented in the ARC International Show at the European Museum of Modern Art (MEAM) in Barcelona and the Salmagundi Club Gallery in NYC.

Layne has shown his work in shows and galleries across North America, been short listed for Canada’s National Portrait Competition, The Kingston Prize, as well as being a Hudson River Fellow in New York. Layne is represented in New York City by Rehs Galleries, Inc.
