LANGHAM COURT: Get your thinking caps on!

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee will challenge audiences

The story of six quirky tweens working their way through the contest of a lifetime comes to the Langham Court Theatre stage this month.

First workshopped as a musical theatre piece by Rebecca Feldman back in 2004, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee has captured the hearts of audiences across the continent since.

Director Pat Rundell, who is also co-production chair for this 90th season at Langham Court, is excited about bringing the Tony Award-winning Putnam County to life for Victoria audiences.

“It’s a great musical about kids trying to spell,” he says, adding that audience members “should start studying their dictionaries now, just in case they get called up to be part of the bee.”

As they plough through some challenging words, hoping not to hear the dreaded “ding” indicating a spelling mistake, the young contestants reveal hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, making this a fun and heart-warming story.

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee runs Jan. 16 to Feb. 2. Tickets for this all-ages show can be purchased online at langhamtheatre.ca , by phone at 250-384-2142 or in person at the theatre box office, 805 Langham Ct.
