A Comox author is being honoured as one of the best in B.C. and Yukon as a Roderick Haig-Brown Regional Book Prize finalist.
The prize is awarded to the author(s) of the book that contributes the most to the enjoyment and understanding of British Columbia and/or Yukon.
Ian Kennedy’s book The Best Loved Boat: The Princess Maquinna brings to life the history of the Canadian Pacific Railway’s ship, Princess Maquinna, which steamed up and down the rugged west coast of Vancouver Island during a time when this remote part of B.C. was alive with mines, canneries and now-forgotten settlements.

Kennedy has written several books about B.C.’s history including Sunny Sandy Savary, The Life & Times of Joseph McPhee: Courtenay’s Founding Father and co-authored Tofino and Clayoquot Sound.
During and between writing books, Kennedy carved a name for himself as a respected rugby journalist, a job that took him all over the world and led to a 12-year stint with Rugby Canada.
Kennedy’s articles on the Comox Valley Kickers RFC were a regular fixture in The Record for several years
The winners of the B.C. and Yukon Book Prizes will be announced at an awards gala on Sept. 28, at the University Golf Club in Vancouver.
