You could see and experience almost anything at Studio 54 in New York during the nightclub’s heyday in the 1970s, as the documentary of the same name illustrates. The film opens this Friday (Oct. 19) at The Vic Theatre.

Here’s what screening this month at The Vic Theatre, courtesy of the Victoria Film Festival:

Studio 54 (Opens Oct. 19)

In New York, Studio 54 was the epicentre of 1970s hedonism – a place that not only redefined the nightclub, but also came to symbolize an entire era. Its co-owners, Ian Schrager and Steve Rubell, two friends from Brooklyn, seemed to come out of nowhere to suddenly preside over a new kind of New York society.

Now, 39 years after the velvet rope was first slung across the club’s hallowed threshold, a feature documentary tells the real story behind the greatest club of all time.

Maria by Callas (Opens Oct. 26)

This film offers up an intimate look at the life and work of Greek-American opera singer, Maria Callas, as told in her own words.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (Showing Oct. 26, 27, 31)

In this cult classic that has become a Halloween time staple, sweethearts Brad (Barry Bostwick) and Janet (Susan Sarandon), after getting stuck with a flat tire during a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Tim Curry), a transvestite scientist. As they meet a houseful of wild characters, Brad and Janet’s innocence is gradually lost.
