You may know him solely as Mr. D.
But if you’ve seen Gerry Dee’s stand up comedy act over the past couple of decades, you know him as a hilarious comic who pokes fun at marriage, fatherhood and his nine years working as a real-life private school teacher. His CBC TV show, which aired its final episode in December 2018 after an eight season run, drew from his career in the classroom.
Dee is celebrating a milestone with his 20 Years of Stand Up cross-Canada tour, which includes an April 4 date in Victoria at the Royal Theatre.
Joining him for that show will be B.C. comedian Ivan Decker, co-host of CBC’s The Debaters and the 2018 Juno Award winner for Comedy Album of the Year.
Among the honours Dee has achieved during his stand up career, he became the first Canadian in 27 years to win the prestigious San Francisco International Comedy Competition, and was a finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing, the highest finish by a Canadian in the program’s history.
Dee’s live show is recommended for audiences ages 14 years and older. To find tickets for the Victoria performance, you can go online to rmts.bc.ca or call 250-386-6121 to book by phone.
