Wine lovers converged on the Delta Ocean Pointe Resort on Sunday night to help celebrate and raise funds for The Belfry Theatre.
Crush – A Fine Wine Affair saw representatives of vintners from around British Columbia offer up tastings of their latest and most popular wines, while attendees bid on 21 lots of extra-special donated wines and spirits during a live auction.
From a six-bottle selection of 2013 wines from Barbaresco in Italy to a 1934 vintage Comte de Lauvia Armagnac and a 1988 Château Mouton de Rothschild, winning bidders took home a variety of rare wines, plus a couple of bottles of rare Scotch, with the most valued items bringing in $1,000-plus.

Noted local sommelier and wine educator Earl Wilde led those gathered through the offerings, lending colour to the proceedings and adding to the thorough descriptions of the lots written up for the Crush program by Monday Magazine wine columnist Robert Moyes. Auctioneer Roshan Vickery also entertained as he coaxed bidders through the process.
The gala social also saw Sommelier Pamela Sanderson from Hire a Somm lead attendees through a blind tasting, while the Joey Smith Trio entertained guests. Plus a variety of delectable savoury and sweet bites created by Craig Stoneman provided palate changers and pairings for the wines being sampled.
While the final total raised was not yet available at the time of writing, the event is generally one of the largest fundraisers of the year for The Belfry Theatre.
