While 2020 brought us into the world of pop-up and mobile community theatre experiences, now in 2021, Theatre SKAM is excited to announce that its 13th Annual SKAMpede Festival returns this July with new and exciting performances.

Theatre on the Galloping Goose will be back July 16 to 18, with what is to be SKAMpede’s biggest festival yet. We’re talking about innovative performances from 16 Canadian theatre companies, each offering its own flavour of fresh theatrical experiences.

In the spirit of exhilaration that comes with mobile theatre experiences, families will have the opportunity to walk, skip or cycle their way from performance to performance in tours of up to 12 participants, creating a fully immersive experience of the festival. All performances will be physically distanced and family friendly, allowing for maximum audience participation in the safest environment possible. Due to the scope of this year’s festival, four separate tours will be offered, with audiences able to choose which ones they want to see.

For those who are itching for live performance, artistic and managing producer Matthew Payne offers a preview of what’s to come: “There’ll be puppetry that will have audiences laughing their socks off, experimental dance pieces, improv that will have performers surprising themselves, and onstage narratives that will project audiences right into the story,” says Payne.

TheatreSKAM is also thrilled to announce that the SKAM Young Company, a troupe of actors ages 15 to 19, are performing a unique work of their own creation in the festival. This highly anticipated performance is sure to inspire young audience members and the next generation of theatre creators here in this ever-bursting talented town of Victoria.

In order to keep the festival accessible, it operates on a pay-what-you-can system with a suggested ticket price of $10 per tour.
