To say Fall of Earth is a work in progress is anything but a negative review of this immensely talented group of musicians.
The band has, in fact, labelled itself as “Hybrid Metal” and when they take the stage, they have a sound that is a special mix of progressive, death and thrash genres. Their music has become more complex and refined over the years, with longer tracks that feature epic, dynamic, and melodic music.
Their recently released album “From the Ashes” is a testament to the creative and unpredictable talent of the group.
“Crossroads,” the third track on their new album, epitomizes the band’s approach to heavy metal music. It’s a 10-minute epic about power and taking control of one’s own life.
The band’s title track is similarly a frantic trek into childhood abuse and trauma, and the death metal vibe is not music that represents a loss of a hard edge.
Still, Fall of Earth can also play ballads with definite crossover appeal, complete with acoustic guitar riffs.
“The Road to Purgatory Across Canada tour is our first tour with the band’s new line-up. We’ve got Myles (Packer) and Matt (Lindholm) joining us and they are electrifying,” said frontman Alex Rye. “We’re doing 40 shows right across this beautiful country, and it will be electrifying.”
Packer and Lindholm will join Brody Bauer (lead guitar and vocals), Rye (lead vocals) and Brendan Meilleur (drums, vocals) when they appear at Victoria’s Phoenix Bar & Grill on Sept. 15.
Their performance will be a kickoff for the 3N1GMATIC (Enigmatic) Music Festival. That festival was originally born from a dream to bring a heavy music festival to the Okanagan. The dream was realized and now organizers are bringing the same hard-hitting, high-energy talent to Victoria.
In total, the festival will feature 16 amazing groups on Sept. 15 and 16.
Tickets are $40 for a day or $70 for a weekend pass.
