The McMillan Arts Centre in Parksville is set to reopen on June 18, after being closed due to COVID-19 concerns.
Local artists are set to be featured – Kelly Corbett, Carla Flegel, Brian Middleton, Margery Blom, William Allen and Pattiann Withapea – plus celebrated Vancouver Island artist Brian Scott.
“We encourage our community to shop local, and support our local artists,” read a press release.

Their studio will be filled with the MAC Summer Art Bites Program, an all-ages art program running every Sunday. It’s $30 per class, including supplies. Early registration is recommended, as there’s only six spots per class.
The MAC has also been working on a multimedia digital experience that will explore the theme of surfacing from isolation and disconnection to renewal and hope. They’re sending a call out to the PQB community to send in their digital images (no larger than 1MB) to be included in the ‘Surfacing’ exhibit.
Also a collaborative project, the MAC is gearing up for their ‘With Glowing Hearts’ display. They’re asking the community to create their own version of a heart image, which they will start accepting on June 4. The hearts must be weatherproof, have a mounting system at the back, and no larger than six inches by six inches.
Starting Friday, May 29, the MAC will begin taking reservations. They’re working with reduced numbers to ensure proper COVID-19 protocol can be in place, as they’ve worked with WorkSafe BC to develop a strategy.
They are scheduling half-hour visiting blocks between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. The first reservation will be taken for 11 a.m. and the last reservation will be taken for 3:30 p.m. They will be accepting up to five small groups (four people max) for each 30-minute time period.
