Bachman-Turner Overdrive — BTO — will carry some Port Alberni influence on its latest tour. Lance Lapointe, known as "Campfire Lance," has signed on as singer and bassist for the legendary rock band.
The band kicked off their 2025 North American tour at Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in Victoria on April 1. April Wine and the Headpins opened for BTO.
Lapointe joins original Bachman-Turner Overdrive founder Randy Bachman, 81, Bachman's son Tal and daughter-in-law Koko (on drums) as well as guitarist Brent Howard from Maple Ridge.
Randy Bachman started the band in 1973 with brothers Robbie and Tim as well as Fred Turner, and they went on to have seven top-40 albums and 11 top-40 singles nationally within the decade.
BTO played many of those top songs as well as some from Bachman's other band, The Guess Who, and Tal Bachman's hit single "She's So High." After 90 minutes of non-stop hits and a new release called "60 Years Ago," Lapointe and Bachman led the group in a medley of rock anthems that had the crowd in the packed stadium on their feet.
The band is working its way east from now until the end of September.
