In loving memory ~
Thordis Sofie Djukastein, nee Giswold passed peacefully on December 11th, 2022, aged 84 at Victoria General Hospital.
She was predeceased by her son Torfinn Djukastein earlier this year, her parents Thormod and Signe Giswold, and her siblings also in Norway, Tor, Karen and Solveig.
Thordis is survived by her brother Thormod Giswold, son Erik Djukastein (Lora Morrice), grandchildren Holly and Benjamin, and nieces and nephews in Norway.
Thordis immigrated to Canada in 1961 and lived for many years in the Yukon where she married Klaus Djukastein and had twins. Despite her keen entrepreneurial spirit, sharp wit, and many businesses over the years, she was an intensely private person. She had a passion for collectibles, garage sales, berry picking and playing cards. With an iron will, in the early 90s she stopped smoking and drinking at the same time, noting that when she put her mind to something, she always got it done. She never faltered or looked back and set an example for perseverance. She will be missed.
The family extends appreciation for years of great care to Dr. Linda Wilson and to the staff and hospitalists at VGH 6 North who cared for her latterly.
