SCHMID, Rolf
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rolf Schmid. He passed on peacefully at home in Sidney on February 21st, 2007 at the age of 79, with his wife and stepdaughter at his side.
Rolf is survived by his loving wife, Driesje Schmid of Sidney, BC; brother
Willie Schmid (Chrystel) and son Ulrich Schmid (Emilie) of Switzerland;
stepson Pieter Kalis (Brenda) of Edmonton, Alberta; stepdaughter Sara
Gilbert (Michael) of Chilliwack, BC; as well as grandchildren Daniela Schmid; Peter, Trevor and Leah Kalis; andGrant and Spencer Gilbert. He will be greatly missed by all.
Rolf had several careers in Switzerland, and he enjoyed taking part in
walking clubs for which he received many medals. After he emigrated to
Canada, Rolf enjoyed various hobbies such as stamp collecting, painting and
woodworking. His bird houses and crafts (by Ro-Ho) made their way all over Vancouver Island and beyond.
Special thanks to Dr. Gordon Henderson and also the palliative care team for their compassion and wonderful care.
Rolf asked that everything be kept simple and did not wish to have a funeral.
It is difficult to let you go Rolf, but we place you safely in the arms of Jesus. We thank you for the years we had with you and we will not say goodbye, but rather, till we meet again. Until then, you will remain in our hearts always.
