Lorna Irene Clarke (nee Davis)

February 3, 2011

On February 3, 2011, Lorna passed away peacefully at her home in Sidney, BC. Born in London, England on December 25, 1917, Lorna emigrated to Canada in 1952 with her husband, Gordon Clarke, and their two young children. She lived in Acton, Ontario before moving to Sidney in 1993.

Widowed at 39 and braced with a stiff upper lip, post-war thrift, and sheer determination, Lorna raised her children alone while working for the Town of Acton. Lorna was faithful and committed to her family, friends and church. She contributed generously to community and causes and her sharp wit and laughter will stay with us forever

Lorna’s passion was travelling on a modest budget, going off the beaten track and doing new things. She was always game for adventure and at 92 enjoyed a road trip along the California coast to Disneyland. Her last request was for her passport.

Leaving us to honour her life are son David Clarke (Debby Vollbrecht) of Vancouver, daughter Susan Clarke (Alan Dolan) of Sidney, grandchildren Stacey Clarke (Joel Pennington) of Singapore and Adrian Dolan of Victoria, brother Donald Davis of Buckingham, England, and nieces, cousins and their families in England.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Mt Newton Centre, 2158 Mt Newton Cross Rd., Saanichton, BC V8M 2B2 or The Marmot Recovery Foundation, Box 2332, Stn A, 104- 65 Front St, Nanaimo, British Columbia V9R 6X9 would be appreciated.

A Celebration of Life will be held at St Andrews Church in Sidney, BC. Date to be posted at
