In loving memory ~
With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Helen Griffin, a woman who made a lasting impression on everyone she met.
Known for her generous spirit, sense of fun, unapologetic honesty and fierce loyalty to her family and friends, Helen will be dearly missed. She is survived by her brother Bob, her son Dean, and her two nieces Kim and Kelly.
Having lived in Victoria her entire life, with the last 60 years in Langford, Helen developed quite a community of friends, bonspielers and fellow country music lovers.
A natural at all sports, Helen excelled at golf, curling and even darts. She was a long-time member of the Victoria Curling Club with an impressive array of trophies and other accolades. Those who lived in Victoria in the 1970s may well remember Helen and her brother, Bob winning the historic Great Inner Tube Race along the Gorge Waterway.
Helen spent her summers at Cheanuh Marina and later Becher Bay Marina & Campground and became a regular sight buzzing around in her golf cart, with her cigarettes in one pocket and dog treats in the other. Her 'Nob Hill' trailer became the place to gather for friends and acquaintances to stop by for a quick smoke or a beer. She also enjoyed regular get-togethers at a private local homestead fondly nicknamed 'The Barn'.
Helen's passions included her TV, playing Candy Crush on her tablette and her beloved circle of friends and family, including her two granddogs.
Helen was a 'tough 'ol gal'; her strength and perseverance carried her through diabetes, cancer and kidney disease. She was a survivor, living life on her own terms right until the end.
A truly unique soul, Helen told it like it was. She stood up for what she believed in, with honesty and integrity. You always knew where you stood with Helen. She was definitely one-of-a-kind.
Anybody who knew Helen well knows that she liked to have a good time. Let's honour her memory by raising a beer together. Here's to you, Helen! Looking forward someday to seeing you again at your special Nob Hill in the sky!
