1927-2020 ~ Larry passed away in his sleep on December 18 at the age of 93. Larry was well known to be a kind, generous, and caring person. He was a third-generation resident of Oak Bay and attended Willows School, where his great grandfather worked, and Oak Bay High School.
Larry's father Harold was a pharmacist and started and owned Davenport Pharmacy at 2012 Oak Bay Avenue. The family all lived above the pharmacy before building a new house on Dufferin Avenue. Larry's summers were spent rafting at Willows Beach and later swimming and boating at his parents' houseboat on Shawnigan Lake. As a teen, he could be heard roaring around Oak Bay on his Harley Davidson motorcycle.
Larry graduated from UBC in 1953 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy. During his internship at the Royal Jubilee Hospital he met Doris, who was working in the Lab. Doris and Larry were married at St. Mary's Church in Oak Bay.
After graduation, Larry joined his father Harold as a partner in Davenport Pharmacy at 2012 Oak Bay Avenue. In 1968, Larry purchased property at 2020 Oak Bay Avenue and constructed a new Davenport Pharmacy where he ran a successful business with his business partner, Ross Noel, until he retired in 1985. The building still stands and now houses Chef on the Run, Oasis Nail Spa, and Villages Pizza.
During retirement, Larry and Doris started taking longer RVing trips. Larry was also an Oak Bay Cub Scout leader and enjoyed playing badminton, both at St. Mary's Church.
Larry also enjoyed puttering in the garden with Doris on Central Avenue, and later Oliver Street, as well as spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Larry was predeceased by his wife Doris in 2015 and moved into Carlton House for three wonderful years. Larry was also predeceased by his two younger brothers, Richard and Bruce. Left to miss him are his children David (Gloria), Ann (Jeremy), Kathryn (Mike), grandchildren: Alicia, Jonathon, Corianne, Shawn, Brian and Graeme. and eight great-grandchildren.
