January 10, 1927 - August 8, 2021
It is with great sadness that we announce John's passing in Victoria General Hospital after a short illness. Born in Victoria, John spent his life on the Island. He graduated from Oak Bay High in 1945 and went on to study at Vic College for a year.
After several summers spent surveying the Yukon/B.C. border John began his 32- year career as a cartographer with the B.C. government. He learned how to fly and to take aerial photographs.
John was an avid fisherman and built his own boats. He loved figure skating, enjoyed line-dancing, lawn bowling, and was a keen curler until just a few years ago. One of the original conservationists, John's great love was his vegetable garden, which he tended until the day he was hospitalised.
Dear uncle to Wendy (Egon), Andrew (Kerstin), and Christopher (Laura). Fond granduncle of Philip (Kaitlyn), Alex, Sebastian, Sarah, Shannon, and Jordan. He will be sorely missed. Family, friends, and neighbours know how much John cared about nature and our environment, so all who wish to honour his life are invited to plant some vegetables of their own with him in mind.
If desired, donations in John's memory may be made to:
