With profound sadness, but with hearts full of happy memories, we said good-bye to the strongest branch of our family tree.
Bette was born in Saanichton and lived in Deep Cove (N. Saanich) her entire life until the last few years when she required assisted living.
She moved to Courtenay to be closer to her daughter Susan and family. Bette was the daughter of Donald Sr. and Olive Sparling, a longtime Sidney family. She was the last survivor of five siblings (Paul, Nancy, Tom & Pat).
Bette leaves her 3 children, David Beattie (June), Susan Jestico (Ray) & Donna Owens. Five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Bette and her husband Elwood operated Sidney Garden Equipment for many years until the mid 70's. Elwood passed away in 1977 and since that time she continued to have a full life with a love for gardening, camping, traveling, taking up golf, bowling, card nights (when she was winning), and enjoying her pool with her many close friends and family.
To her grandchildren she was always winning "gramma of the year" for a solid 47 years. Once into her golden years she gave up her independent living to the care facility where she was able to enjoy being waited on for a change.
