MCCLELLAND, Edith

(Edie) Irene

Passed away peacefully in her home at West Shore Lodge in Colwood (Victoria), BC on May 28th, 2007, just one day short of her 90th birthday. Born Edith Misner, May 29th, 1917 in Woodhouse Township, ON; married Ken in 1938. Ken joined RCNVR, was posted in Halifax, NS, so they lived in Dartmouth (survived harbour ammunition explosion); after Ken’s discharge they returned to Ontario to live in communities of Mount Albert, Stroud and Bramalea. Edie had many fond memories of her years working at York County Hospital and as Office Manager for Dr. Owen Slingerland and Dr. Frank Cooper in their Mount Albert practice. Ken and Edie were both happy to retire on Vancouver Island. After 63 years of marriage Ken passed away May 9th , 2001 at age 86 in Langford, BC.

Edie was also predeceased by her brother Bruce of Campbell River, and she is lovingly remembered by her sister Helen Murphy of Etobicoke, and by four “special” nephews and other relatives, including cousins in the Saracuse family in both Victoria and Ontario. “And in turn…” Edie was a great friend to many people, all of whom knew they would get the straight goods from her and who enjoyed her subtle humour, her vivid stories and her personal interest in their lives and families.

Many thanks to the Home Care staff/nurses of West Shore Lodge, V.I. Health Authority and Victoria General Hospital.

Interment was held Tuesday June 5th at 3:00 p.m., followed by a “Celebration of Long Life” held at West Shore Lodge. Donations may be made to VGH and to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
