Don Andrew

January 17, 1920 - October 5, 2010

We sadly say farewell to Dad (Grandpa). Born in Lestock, Sask, Don worked a variety of jobs before joining the Canadian Army in 1941. He served in the Mediterranean, Europe & UK as a mechanic in RCEME & left the service in 1945 as a Lance Corporal to return to Canada with his war-bride wife, Betty. They settled first in Colwood, then Gordon Head & raised five children. A mechanic at the Dockyard for 31 years, Don also enjoyed camping, boating and monkey-wrenching. Don & Betty moved to Sidney in the 70’s & after retirement, loved to travel in their van & sailboat. Don could make or fix virtually anything & amazed us with his ingenuity & resourcefulness. Reunited with his beloved wife of 65 years, Betty (whom we lost in August 2010) & lovingly remembered by his children, Sally (Doug), Jennifer (Dany), Nancy (René), Richard (Cynthia), Diana (Lee), five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. “Welcome friend, come on in.” Rest well, Dad, you deserve it.

Memorial service to be held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, 9691 4th Street, Sidney at 3:00pm on Friday, November 5, reception to follow in church hall. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Don’s name to a charity of your choice.
