PELTO – DOLORES “LORRI” THORNE, died peacefully at her home in Sidney, BC, Tuesday, April 17, 2007. Lorri was born May 25, 1942 in Port Elgin, ON and was a resident of Sidney for 38 years. Predeceased by her husband, Rickard Bull, 1974, her father, Kenneth J. Thorne, 1971, her mother, Lucy Thorne Whittier, 2003, niece, Karen Thorne, 1973, and nephew Daniel Thorne, 1985. Lorri began her family in Vancouver, lived in Williams Lake for 6 years, and returned to Sidney in 1977. After 22 years with the Workers Compensation Board, Lorri retired in order to spend time with her family and friends in both Sidney and San Diego. Passionate about boating with her husband Lorne, Lorri was a retired Lieutenant with the Sidney Power Squadron and could be found on the waters of the east coast of Vancouver Island all summer long. Lorri’s inner strength, generosity and zest for life provided guidance to all who knew her – she will be deeply missed.
Lorri leaves to mourn her cherished husband of 18 years, Lorne; her daughters, Kimberly Bull, Kelly Bull-Tomer (Steve) and Melissa Pelto (Damien); grandsons Jake, Ryan and Luke Tomer; granddaughter Brooklyn Chambers; Sara, Will and David Lowen; sister Joan Backhaus (Paul); brothers Ken Thorne (Freda) and Steve Thorne (Sheryl); nieces and nephews Susan (Lloyd) Jenkins, Tom (Tracey) Wilkinson, Lisa (Kelly) Griffin, Dale Backhaus and Jeremy Thorne; as well as by her loving extended family.

A celebration of Lorri’s life will be held at St. Andrew’s Church, 9691 4th Street, Sidney, BC on Wednesday April 25 at 2:00 pm, with Reverend Richard Root officiating. Following the service, friends are invited to join the family for refreshments in St. Andrews Church hall. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made if desired, to the BC Cancer Foundation and/or the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Palliative Care Unit.
