Diane, a longtime Maple Ridge BC business woman (Di's Cherry Pit fashion store), passed away on the afternoon of Dec 7 at Victoria Hospice in the Royal Jubilee Hospital, after a short battle with cancers. She was 86.
She is survived by her grandson, Trevor Barry and two great-grandchildren: Nathaniel and Vanessa; as well as her siblings Jeannine Daigle (Seattle), Donald (Hatzic) and Darryl (Airdrie).
She is predeceased by her husband Bill, son Cyril and granddaughter Tasha Barry; as well as her brothers Rory and Mel.
Diane was born to parents Mary Isabel MacDougall & Cyril Walter Washtock, and grew up in North Bend, in the Fraser Canyon along the Canadian Pacific Railway. She married Bill from Yale in 1953, and baby Cyril was born 3yr later. From there, the CPR took her to Vancouver (near family), then Nelson BC, and finally Maple Ridge for over 45 years. She moved to Saanich BC earlier this year to be close to Trevor. She died peacefully with him by her side.
Diane was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. She was a celebrated local business owner for decades. She enjoyed skiing as a youth, and attending dance and saxophone recitals as a grandmother. Known as "Shad(ow)" to her best friends, she wished you all her love as she transitioned to her next life as a Catholic.
She will be buried alongside her Barry family in a plot in Mission, BC. Follow more details #MissingDianeBarry
The family extends its gratitude to the tremendous staff at Victoria Hospice. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to them or VARIETY the Children's Charity.
