On Tuesday, August 21 our dear Mom succumbed to a stroke at the Lachine Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre in the West Island of Montreal. Born August 24, 1938, in Bayonne, France, Claire (nee Rodrigues) arrived in Canada in the 1950s. After living in Toronto and then in Montreal in the 1960s & 70s, she moved to Victoria in 1982. Her last fourteen years were spent happily and comfortably in Oak Bay at The Dorchester.

Predeceased by parents Robert Rodrigues and Lucienne Suares, Claire is the eldest of four sisters and is mourned by Danielle Basset, Eliane Rodrigues, and Michelle Cederberg as well as nephews Francois, Patrick & Bruno Basset and Eric Cederberg.

Her sons Daniel, Philippe, and Bernard, and their father Paul Cooper survive and grieve her passing, as do grandchildren Benjamin and Jessica Cooper, Colette and Matthew Cooper, and Liam Cooper-Brown.

Claire was a long-time volunteer at the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria. In the last few years, Claire withdrew from many social engagements due to the relentless advance of Alzheimer's disease. Buried at Montreal's Mount-Royal Cemetery on the day that would have been her 80th birthday, we honoured the memory of a gracious & gentle lady. Donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada are appreciated. http://alzheimer.ca.
