Brennan, Barbara Constance (Dean) passed away on August 27, 2017 at the age of 85 years. She will be forever and lovingly remembered by her husband Patrick, sons Raymond (Philippa), Michael, Kevin (Tamara), daughter Leigh (Robin) and step-children, Donald (Ya-Lin), Katherine, Tracy and Riley (Martin), grand-children Michael, Ashley, Jordan, Rebecca (James), Justin, Taylor, Aleah, Louis, Noah, Matthew, Faren and Charley, great-granddaughter Paige and by her sister Marion (Gerry). Barbara was pre-deceased by her 1st husband Raymond Lightbourn, her brothers Ted, Jim and John.

Born in Sunningdale, GBR in 1932, Barbara was an active member of the community wherever she went. She was married to Raymond Lightbourn from 1953 to 1969 and they raised 4 children in Nassau, Bahamas. During that time, she was involved with numerous associations and clubs including the Bahamas Chamber of Commerce and the Bahamas Business and Professional Women's Association.

In 1981, she met and married Pat Brennan and relocated to Sidney, BC. They operated a small but successful 5-acre farm dubbed "Bailiwick". Over the years, they have grown kiwifruit, walnuts, hazelnuts, blackberries and raspberries. They raised goats, bees, geese and most recently, alpacas. She became a Canadian citizen in 1984.

Barbara was a freelance writer and her portfolio spans 1960 to 2017. She founded Island Directories in 1987 and served as editor for Visitor Publications from 1989 to 1994. She was accredited as Journalist for the 1994 Commonwealth Games in her role as publicist for the World's Tallest Totem Pole Project. She served on the Kiwifruit Growers Association of BC, the Farm Direct Marketing Association of BC, the Agricultural Task Force and the Agricultural Advisory Committee, as Editor for Beeline, as Treasurer for Church of Our Lord in Victoria and co-author of The Kiwifruit Collection Cookbook. She also served as elected Councillor for the district of North Saanich for 2 terms (from 1984-86).

A celebration of Barbara's life will be held from 4-6 pm on Saturday, October 7th at Church and State Winery in Central Saanich. Memorial donations may be made in her name to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation.
