The Victoria On Stage Musical Theatre Society presents Richard O’Brien’s The Rocky Horror Show at the McPherson Playhouse from November 25 to December 4.
It’s a night no audience will soon forget. A cult classic. A freak show. The Rocky Horror Show is the story of well-behaved sweethearts Brad Majors (MJ Connelly) and Janet Weiss (Danielle Greschner), who become stranded one stormy night and seek refuge in an eerie, towering mansion owned by Dr. Frank-N-Furter (Jordan Holloway), an alien, moonstruck scientist with a manic genius and an insatiable libido.
The mansion’s colourful inhabitants—a rocking biker (Neil Croswell), a sinister butler (Brayden Lord), his sister Magenta (Emily Hunt), and Frank-N-Furter’s latest lab creation, a muscular man named Rocky (Dan Comeau)—test the couple’s innocence and transport them, seemingly, to an entirely different planet.
The production is a loving homage to the classic B-movie sci-fi and horror genres. With elaborate costumes and an unforgettable rock ‘n’ roll score, this gender-bending coming-of-age story of self-expression is more relevant than ever, with its theme, “Don’t dream it, BE
it.” All it takes is “a jump to the left.”
The show is directed by Hailey Christie-Hoyle, with music direction by Jeff Poynter and choreography by Emily Eymundson, and produced by Francesca Bitonti and Sue Pyke.
The Rocky Horror Show runs November 25-27 and December 2-3 at 7:30 pm, and December 4 at 2 pm. For more information, visit vostheatre.ca. Tickets start at $25.25 and can be purchased at rmts.bc.ca.
