Daniel Romano will showcase his eclectic style of music at Victoria’s Capital Ballroom on June 16th.

Romano, from Welland, Ontario, has often performed solo but will lead Daniel Romano’s Outfit when he’s in town —a six-person band that features David Nardi (guitar), Roddy Rosetti (electric bass), his brother Ian Romano (drums), Julianna Riolino (vocals), and Tony “The Pope” Cicero (organ).

The group released their third album, La Luna, in 2022 and are set to play a cluster of tracks from it at their Victoria show, plus a selection of their greatest hits which blend a mix of genres including folk, country, rock and psychedelic music.

Romano himself plays guitar, bass, drums and various other instruments, as well as being a singer-songwriter, record producer, poet and visual artist. He’s known for his distinctive singing voice — often compared to classic country singers Merle Haggard and George Jones — and a prolific output, having released 20 albums since 2010.

The Outfit has received critical acclaim for their music, with many reviewers lauding their unique sound and Romano’s songwriting. They’ve also toured extensively in Canada, the US and Europe and grown a loyal fan base.

Romano, 37, began his career fronting the punk band Attack in Black, before embarking on a solo career in 2010. His 2011 album Sleep Beneath the Willow and 2013’s Come Cry With Me were both longlisted for the Polaris Music Prize and he’s also been nominated for several Juno awards.

The multi-talented artist, who often creates the artwork and clothing for his album covers, has also collaborated with iconic musicians such as Margo Price, the late Gord Downie and Dallas Green.

Romano is also a partner in his own independent record label, You’ve Changed Records, teaming up with Steve Lambke of The Constantines. During COVID he released a bunch of new albums, including a live title Fully Plugged In.
