The Gift of Good Food, Fernwood Neighbourhood Resource Group Society (Fernwood NRG)’s annual holiday fundraiser, is in full swing from now until midnight on December 31.
Each year, The Gift of Good Food raises money to support year-long access to fresh fruits and vegetables for families facing food insecurity throughout Greater Victoria.
The program works with Fernwood NRG’s Good Food Box project to bulk-purchase fresh produce from local farmers and distributors. Over 20 volunteers pack and distribute this produce to families each week.
The Gift of Good Food has 18 partner organizations that include community service centres, grassroots food justice groups, refugee support organizations, and the Songhees and Esquimalt Nations. Fernwood NRG connects with these partners to reach their most vulnerable families.
Every $700 raised supports a family with fresh produce for a year. The goal this year is to raise $100,000 and support more than 140 families across Greater Victoria for all of 2023.
