Get your groovy on

1960s theme at Art of the Cocktail

The sweet sound of cocktail shakers mixing up exotic concoctions is about to fill the air in Victoria.

That’s right, now that we’ve managed to make it through the pandemic, exhibitors from the best distilleries and restaurants are descending upon Crystal Garden for Art of the Cocktail on October 15.

“We’re going. We believe the arts are an important part of our community, and we love our community,” says Alayne MacIsaac, CEO and co-founder of Sheringham Distillery.

Cocktails as a charity fundraiser—why not?

“They say, do what you love, and so I went with a cocktail event. I thought it would be a great fundraiser and it is,” says Kathy Kay, director of the Victoria Film Festival (VFF).

The VFF organizers have once again come up with a game plan that goes beyond the typical tasting event. With a 1960s vibe, dress will be miniskirts, capris and neckerchiefs (okay, guys go look that one up). Sixties pop art, music and even go-go dancers will be thrown into the mix along with a photo booth dedicated to flower power. And watch out for the Best Dressed Competition, yeah baby! Game on!

“Each year we get an opportunity to showcase our talented bartenders for some friendly competition in support of a great organization—the Victoria Film Festival,” says Doug Chant of the Fairmont Empress.

The Empress has exhibited at all 12 Art of the Cocktail events, and it will be joining some new distilleries, including Goldstream Distillery, Tofino Distillery, Pacific Rim Distilling and Moon Distillery.

Did we mention the food? Think Ten Acres, Wind Cries Mary, The Courtney Room, Justo’s, Quesava, Castle’s Ginery and more.

So, get your ‘60s groovy on. Audrey, Twiggy and Austin are expecting you.
