The answer to the well-known joke on how to get to Carnegie Hall still holds true: “Practise, Practise, Practise. Toronto based pianist Kara Huber started practising the piano at age 5. Her combination of musical talent and lifelong commitment to practising the piano has resulted in numerous solo

appearances at the Kennedy Center, the Piano Virtuoso Series at the Canadian Opera Company, and the Rising Stars Piano Series in Southampton, New York.

This Saturday Ms. Huber will be performing at St. Mary's Church in Oak Bay. Her program consists of the 13 Preludes by Rachmaninoff as well as more recent works for solo piano by American composers Earl Wild and George Gerswhin, David Rakowski and Joan Tower.

“Although I have a very close connection to all the pieces on the program, the Gershwin Etudes by Earl Wild are my 'guilty pleasure' pieces since they are so much fun to play. I have loved the music of Gershwin since I was little and think Wild arranges these tunes beautifully.”

Oak Bay Music's founder and organizer Erik Abbink feels blessed with Huber's upcoming appearance: “It's fantastic to be able to present visiting artists. I could not wish for a better combination of local and visiting performers as part of our concert series.” After an outstanding performance by Italian pianist Marco Grieco last October, Kara will be a welcomed addition the the popular Master Pianists series.

Ms. Huber is also looking forward to spending time in Oak Bay. “I'm excited to leave my snow boots in Toronto! I will be playing this program in a few weeks in Carnegie Hall, so I'm thrilled to share a night of music with the Oak Bay community."
