This November 12 to 14, don’t miss The Victoria Jazz Society Presents: Fall Sessions, including three evenings of live music performances and one free-to-attend morning workshop by critically-acclaimed jazz artists.

On Friday, November 12, witness a stunning twin bill featuring both the Marc Atkinson Trio, led by one of Canada’s finest JUNO-nominated and Western Canadian Award-winning guitarists, Marc Atkinson, and JUNO-winning pianist and vocalist Michael Kaeshammer and his band, who have developed a style that weaves threads of classical, jazz, blues, boogie-woogie and pop into a sought-after sonic tapestry.

Marc Atkinson will also host a free-to-attend workshop the following morning, Saturday, November 13, at 11 am at Tom Lee Music, located at 2401D Millstream Rd #105 in Langford.

Also on Saturday, November 13, experience some of the most eclectic Latin music on the international music scene from the Alex Cuba Band. With over 20 awards and nominations to his name, including four Grammys, two JUNOs, and three Grammy nominations, Alex Cuba incorporates his Cuban roots and brings together melodies, pop-soul hooks and rock chords in songs that may seem to bear little resemblance to traditional Cuban form. Opening this evening will be Victoria trumpeter extraordinaire, Miguelito Valdes and his ensemble.

After this performance, prepare to wind up for a late-night concert taking place at the Victoria Event Centre, featuring local R&B band Diamond Café, led by Canadian multi-instrumentalist Tristan Thompson, who blends his own take on the genres of soul/R&B, funk and pop.

The Marc Atkinson and Alex Cuba Band events run at the McPherson Playhouse, beginning at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $57/$47.50 (tax and service charges included), and are available online at rmts.bc.ca.

Closing The Fall Sessions on Sunday, November 14 will be two performances by Justin-Time recording artist and singer/songwriter Halie Loren with her trio that mixes jazz, pop, vibrant vocals and authentic lyrics to create a unique fusion of sound. There will be one afternoon presentation at 3 pm and one evening presentation at 7 pm, both at Hermann’s Jazz Club. Tickets are $38.50 (tax and service charges included), and are available online at hermannsjazz.com.
