Completely Creedence, the stellar B.C.-based CCR tribute band, has three performances coming up on the Island: at the Port Theatre in Nanaimo Nov. 2; at the Tidemark Theatre in Campbell River Nov. 16 and the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre in Duncan Nov. 22.

During Creedence Clearwater Revival’s most prolific period, they released 14 consecutive Top 10 singles and five consecutive Top 10 albums.

They were also the first band booked to play the historic Woodstock festival in 1969 and the music they produced and the stage presence they delivered combined to make them classic rock icons.

That’s why it’s not surprising that, in an age of tribute bands for everyone from the Beatles and Queen to Pink Floyd and even Simon and Garfunkel, that CCR would inspire their own tribute performers.

However, not all tribute bands are created equal.

The talented musicians of B.C.-based CCR tribute artists the Completely Creedence Band not only do justice to the classic hits of the original band, but manage to elevate the songs to create a totally amazing show.

Jamie Robertson, the frontman for the group, credits a lot of their success to the fact that he and the rest of the band love the music and really enjoy what they do.

“We just love what we do, and we go out there and just have a blast,” Robertson says. “There are bands out there who just do what they do for the paycheque, and then there’s the ones who do it for the love of the music. It’s not hard to spot the difference.”

Another thing that isn’t hard to spot when the Completely Creedence Band takes the stage is that these guys really like each other.

“There’s a lot of camaraderie between the band members. We like to have a lot of fun. Every performance is different, of course, because we interact with the audience and we’ll do whatever we feel like doing that night, but we all know our part and we feel blessed to be able to do what we love.”

Joining Robertson on stage are Lance LaPointe on bass, Murray Atkinson on guitar and Grant Baird on drums.

“The guys are all great and when we’re together on stage we know that there’s not one right way to approach the music. We do what feels right and we have fun doing it,” Robertson says.

At the same time, Robertson and the rest of the band are respectful of the music and have noticed a resurgence of popularity for the classic rock of the past.

“Classic rock has staying power, and this music will never die. It has substance and meaning and we’re seeing a lot of younger people coming out to our concerts to rediscover the music of the past,” he says.

The band is touring across B.C. to bring that music to their fans and appear next at the Port Theatre in Nanaimo Nov. 2 (tickets.porttheatre.com).

Then the guys move on to the Tidemark Theatre in Campbell River Nov. 16 (purchase.tidemarktheatre.com/Events) before travelling to the Cowichan Performing Arts Centre in Duncan Nov. 22 (tickets at cowichanpac.ca/tickets-and-events/tickets).

The shows are fantastic and not to be missed. There’s no doubt that anyone who takes in any one of those performances will come away smiling and humming those great hits for days to come.
