The party may be quiet in the streets, but Hermann’s Jazz Club is bringing the fun with musical celebrations during Valentine’s Day/Mardi Gras week.
Some of these annual shows, including Hermann’s Valentines show, normally sell out, but will be accessible to all this year via livestreaming.
The star of the most romantic day of the year, Edie Daponte, is performing her show “Valentine to You” on February 14 at 7 pm. Daponte’s emotive and passionate voice lends itself well to jazz, bossa nova, blues and fado, and wins her fame as one of Victoria’s most popular Valentine’s Day singers.
“I can’t remember a Valentine’s Day when I wasn’t singing my heart out somewhere! ” she says.
The audience will hear her many trademark love songs as well as romantic pieces from around the world, spanning multiple decades and languages.
“I hope they’ll feel the love,” Daponte says. “Valentine’s Day is for everyone and we plan on spreading our love through our music.”
Daponte is a Vancouver Island Music Awards “2017 Jazz Recording of the Year” winner and “2016 Vocalist of the Year” nominee.
Also on the week’s lineup: soulful singer and blues guitarist Kelly Fawcett, performing his show Blue Valentine’s on February 12; David Vest, showcasing the Mardi Gras spirit of the New Orlean’s sound February 13; and Shanna Dance’s Mardi Gras! on February 16.
Shanna Dance will cover music from Dixieland jazz, New Orleans R&B and soul in the style of Louis Armstrong, Dr. John, Professor Longhair, Aaron Neville and more.
The shows will be both in-person (pending regulations) and live-streamed via Hermann’s YouTube account with donations going to the artists.
