Culinary extravaganza set to showcase Vancouver Island's finest

Feast of Fields showcases local cuisine and sustainable food practices on Aug. 25

Imagine strolling through a historic farm, wine glass in hand, sampling the finest cuisine Vancouver Island has to offer. This immersive experience is the heart of the 23rd Annual Vancouver Island Feast of Fields, set to transform Heritage Acres in Central Saanich into a gastronomic wonderland on Aug. 25.

Unlike traditional food festivals, Feast of Fields offers a unique gourmet wandering harvest format.

"This event is an important way to connect with local growers and farms in our community that fuel our amazing food culture here," explains Julia Zado, FFCF engagement manager. This direct farm-to-table connection is more than just a feast, she says, it's an education in sustainable food systems.

The longevity of Feast of Fields – now in its 23rd year and recognized as Canada's largest local food celebration – speaks volumes about its impact. Over the past 29 years, FarmFolk CityFolk has hosted over 60 Feast events at 40 different farms across B.C.

From established favorites such as Café Brio to newcomers such as Syriana Restaurant and Catering, the event promises to showcase a diverse array of local businesses. This economic boost ripples through the community, supporting small-scale producers and artisans.

"We work extensively with local growers and producers,” says chef Tyler Thompson of Block Kitchen + Bar. “We love talking about where the food comes from and tell the story of that journey."

New this year, Spinnakers Spirit Merchants will provide a pop-up liquor store, allowing guests to take home their favorite sips. For those seeking non-alcoholic options, a selection of craft beverages will also be available.

Environmental consciousness is woven into the fabric of the event. By focusing on local, sustainable food systems, Feast of Fields aligns with growing eco-friendly practices in food production and consumption. It's a delicious way to reduce food miles and support environmentally responsible farming.
