Winspear Centre the go-to place for arts and culture

Saanich Peninsula centre a hub of entertainment and community activity

The Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney has developed a solid reputation as an arts and cultural hub for the Saanich Peninsula since opening in 2001.

Music fans from around the region have attended events of all genres at the centre’s Charlie White Theatre, hearing such classic rock bands as Chilliwack and Prism, and the many tribute acts that have come through, playing music ranging from Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra to Abba and even Led Zeppelin.

But music isn’t the only attraction at this busy centre.

There is also a thriving visual arts presence here with the Myfanwy Pavelic Gallery, which can be rented for gatherings, and the Winspear Gallery, featuring permanent items on display from the art collection of Margot and Bill Winspear.

The Winspear Gallery spotlights First Nations and Canadiana art, with an overarching vision to celebrate the spirit and natural beauty of Canada and its peoples, demonstrated through an array of forms and mediums.

The items on display and for sale are an ever- changing collection of art including paintings, prints, carvings and sculptures highlighting artists of both local and nationwide notability.

If you’re interested in inquiring about artwork for purchase, please email bedgett@marywinspear.ca or call 250-656-0275 ext. 223.
