A group of volunteers scoring funds for a grand piano hope to perform its swan song soon.
The Piano Committee, is wrapping up its campaign that raised $100,000 to buy a Steinway Concert Grand Piano for the Dave Dunnet Community Theatre at Oak Bay Secondary School. They’ve sold 95 of the 100 seat sponsorships School District 61 gave them to raise funds for the piano project.
The Piano Committee hosted a pair of Pianorama benefit concerts featuring more than a dozen local piano stars, and accepted tax deductible donations and is now in the process of gifting the Concert Grand Piano to School District 61. They’ve created the davedunnet.ca web site and donated the surplus funds raised for the piano to install a 16-channel digital sound mixer and a 32-channel live console at the theatre. They are working on a backstage video communications system.
“We’re really grateful for the Piano Committee’s support,” said Steve Price, theatre manager. “When we install the backstage video communications system, it will bring the theatre up to the top performance venues.”
Donors can still buy a seat sponsorship for $450 while they last.
