Vocalist and cellist Ian Maksin brings his Cello for Peace 2024-2025 Concert Tour to Vancouver Island this February.

Centuries ago, it was written that “music has charms to soothe a savage breast, to soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak.”

And in the case of Ian Maksin, it potentially has the power today to bring a little calm to our increasingly calamitous world.

Maksin’s Cello for Peace 2024-2025 Concert Tour will make two stops on Vancouver Island:

Feb. 22 – Victoria, St. Andrew’s Presbyterian

Feb. 23 – Nanaimo, Unitarian Fellowship of Nanaimo

Maksin performs as a one-man orchestra, transforming his cello into an incredibly rich and powerful musical experience.

Born in Russia and educated there and in the United States, Maksin’s mastery of the cello and amazing stage presence have captivated audiences worldwide.

A vocalist as well as a cellist, Maksin performs in dozens of languages, ranging from Spanish and French to Arabic and Ukrainian, reflecting his commitment to cultural inclusivity.

“I believe that music is one of the most powerful and unifying forces in the world, capable of healing, inspiring, bringing people together, and fostering peace,” Maksin said in his concert announcement.

“Through my cello, I hope to share that belief and, perhaps, bring a bit more understanding into the world.”
