Canadian rapper Dax performs Sept. 12 at Wicket Hall in Victoria, followed by a separately ticketed meet and greet.
Born Daniel Nwosu Jr. to Nigerian immigrant parents in 1994, Dax initially pursued professional basketball and played at the University of Montana and Newman University on full scholarship where he was named all-team MVP. He always had a knack for writing poetry, however, and while riding on the bus with his basketball team in 2016, Dax shared one of his poems with his teammates. The response he received made him realize he had a gift and his musical career blossomed soon after.
After seriously releasing and promoting music through his SoundCloud account, he rose to fame for the official music video of his song Cash Me Outside featuring Danielle Bregoli which went viral and has over 22 million views.
Debuting his hit single She Cheated Again (Genius Verified), DAX followed up with Killshot and Rap God freestyles over Eminem’s instrumentals, which have accumulated 20 million combined views.
One of Dax’s latest hits includes the country-infused single Dear Alcohol. The song debuted at number nine on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 and at 28 on the U.S. Hot Country Songs chart and was eventually certified by both the RIAA and Music Canada. The song is a reflection on Dax’s self-reported toxic relationship with alcohol and while promoting the single, he shared that, “this one is very personal to me.”
The success of that single led to a nomination for Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the 2023 Canadian Country Music Awards.
Dax is performing in Victoria with Robbie G and Cab’Ral. Info and tickets available at strathconahotel.com/event/dax.
