'Mamma Mia!', Mozart, dance, movie unfold on CPAC stage in April

Warmland Dance presents 'Unfolding' on April 25

The Cowichan Performing Arts Centre hops into the exciting Easter month of April with an eclectic mix of events for all arts enthusiasts. From Mamma Mia! to the music of Mozart, moving dance, and a night at the movies there will be sweet treats for audiences this April.

My, my how can you resist the talented students of Queen Margaret's School as here they go again, to put on a show with their production of Mamma Mia! on April 10 and 11. The feel good musical and heartwarming tale of love, family, and self-discovery features some of ABBA’s chart-topping hits as it is set on a picturesque Greek island.

Donna,  an independent hotelier in the Greek islands, is preparing for her daughter's wedding with the help of two old friends. My, my don't let the opportunity to see this energetic and joyous musical pass you by. The students of QMS leave it all out on the CPAC stage with two 7 p.m. performances. Tickets are $30, or $15 for students and children. Look for the full upcoming article in the Citizen.

On April 12 at 7:30 p.m., classical music lovers will not want to miss the chance to see the Cowichan Symphony Society present Angela Hewitt as she plays the moving music of Mozart alongside the Victoria Symphony and 'Eclogue for Piano and Strings' written by 20th-century British composer Gerald Finzi. On April 15 at 7:30 p.m., soothe into the sounds of Symphonic Soundscapes with 45 of the top woodwind, brass, and percussion musicians from Idaho's Brigham Young University. 

The BYU-Idaho Symphony Band ensemble draws from a diverse repertoire which showcases a wide range of composers, styles, and time periods that resonate with a broad variety of audience interests. Tickets are $20, $15 for both students and seniors, and $10 for all children 14 and under.

On April 25 at 6:30 p.m., let the good times unfold as Warmland Dance’s Adult Professional Company presents 'Unfolding'.

Inspired by Rudolf Steiner’s philosophy, 'Unfolding' is a moving and thought provoking exploration of human development from birth that has the power to resonate with all of us as it captures the essence of life’s journey through a dynamic blend of movement styles — from dance and gymnastics to martial arts, said a press release for the show.

At the helm of this production is the company’s artistic director Leah Burley, supported by her assistant choreographer and acclaimed international performer Anna Dickey.

This rare artistic offering for the Cowichan Valley gives lovers of the arts the chance to get in step and witness something special as 'Unfolding' not only showcases exceptional talent but also supports the region’s growing professional adult dance community at Warmland Dance, the release said. Tickets are $45.

On April 28 at 7 p.m., to cap off the month of April, pull the cork out and enjoy a night at the movies with Reel Alternatives as they present Widow Clicquot the true story behind the Veuve Clicquot champagne family and their business that began in the late 18th century. Tickets are $17 and all proceeds go directly to benefiting individuals and families in Cowichan through Cowichan Hospice by ensuring hospice services are available to them when needed.
