The West Shore is filled with light, art and music this month!
The West Shore Arts Council and Westhills present the third annual Light Up the Hills, a family-friendly outdoor festival of light in Langford’s Westhills Community and Belmont Secondary School Sept. 22.
Held after dark, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., the free festival features illuminated artworks creating a spectacular glowing effect throughout the community.
Using hand-made lanterns to guide your way, walk along a designated path, passing by various performances and artworks. This community-focused event aims to showcase the creativity of local artists, musicians and performers!
Art Installations include the Phoenix Rainbow Project, Luminous Grove by Joshua Schmidt, Aurora by Limbic Media, Love Begets Love by Gabrielle Odowichuk and Marie Specht, Illuminus 2.0 by Cam Bremner and Chris Lamb and Illumiblocks.
Performers include Aerial circus artists Kaelyn Schmitt and Sarah Scheunhage, Kaleidoscope Theatre for Young People, Theatre SKAM, The Quicksbottom Morris Dancers, Maple Leaf School of Russian Ballet, Victoria Conservatory of Music, June & July band and Allison Marshall, harpist.
Parking will be available at Belmont Secondary School and at the Westhills YMCA. For those with small children or mobility issues, a trolley service will circulate from Belmont to the YMCA, and past Westhills Park. Learn more at westshorearts.org.

The third annual Colwood Seaside Festival and Paint-In at the Fort comes to Fort Rodd Hill & Fisgard Lighthouse National Historic Sites on Saturday, Sept. 15.
The community festival is produced by the City of Colwood in partnership with Parks Canada, and also features a plein air painting competition, live music, food trucks, kids’ activities, a Vintage Dress-Up & Selfie Station and more!

Head to View Royal’s Eagle Creek Village on Sunday (Sept. 16) for the free, family-friendly Art Fest, hosted by the town of View Royal from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Vote for your favourite local art for a chance to win a prize pack valued at more than $500, enjoy live music with Knacker’s Yard, arts and crafts, face-painting, balloon-twisting, a bouncy castle and a free art kit for the first 100 kids ages 12 and younger.
